Description
A fun, fresh treat featuring thick apple rings topped with a creamy yogurt-cream cheese spread and your choice of toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large firm apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
- 1 cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2–3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional — walnuts or pecans)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: fresh berries, shredded coconut, cinnamon sugar, or mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash and dry your apples. Slice the apples crosswise into 1/2-inch thick rings. Core the center of each ring.
- Make the yogurt-cream cheese spread: In a medium bowl, add the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla. Whisk until smooth.
- Give the spread a quick taste. Adjust sweetness or tang as needed.
- Assemble the donuts: Lay apple rings on a platter and add a dollop of the spread to each apple ring.
- Sprinkle the toppings on each donut. Press them in gently.
- Store in the fridge if serving later to prevent sogginess.
- Let the donuts sit for a minute, then serve cold or at room temperature.
Notes
These apple donuts are a better-for-you treat compared to fried donuts, bringing fiber, vitamins, and less processed sugar.
