- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 8 tbsp unsalted butter (diced into 1/2-inch cubes, keep chilled)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp heavy cream (to brush on top)
- Coarse sanding sugar (to sprinkle on top)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
- Cut in the diced cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
- Bring the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined.
- Form the dough on a floured surface, knead gently until it comes together.
- Shape the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
- Prep your shaped scones on a lined baking sheet, brush with heavy cream, and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden brown.
- Cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Serve with clotted cream and jam. Variations include adding fruits, nuts, or chocolate.
