Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the topping: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt 1/2 cup of butter, then stir in 1 cup of brown sugar for about 2-3 minutes. Pour into a greased 9-inch round cake pan and add the pecans on top.
  3. Make the cake batter: Beat 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine dry ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with 1/2 cup of milk. Mix just until combined.
  6. Pour the cake batter over the pecan topping in the cake pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes, then flip onto a serving plate.
