Description

A decadent breakfast combining creamy custard and warm French toast, finished with a crispy caramelized sugar topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick bread (brioche, challah, or sourdough)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Butter for cooking
  • Brown sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Whisk the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt in a mixing bowl until frothy.
  2. Soak the bread slices in the custard mixture for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a tablespoon of butter until it bubbles slightly.
  4. Cook the soaked bread slices for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden-brown and crispy.
  5. Caramelize the brown sugar on top of the cooked toast using a kitchen torch until bubbly and crispy.
  6. Serve immediately, allowing the caramelized sugar to cool for a minute before enjoying.

Notes

For variations, try using Hawaiian bread, folding in berries, or adding cocoa powder for a chocolate twist. Serve with maple syrup or fresh fruits for garnish.
