Description

A delicious twist on the classic Sloppy Joe, featuring ground Italian sausage, caramelized onions, and rich marinara sauce, served on crispy garlic toast.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil (olive or vegetable)
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 to 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 8 to 10 slices frozen garlic toast
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your Blackstone griddle (or skillet) to medium-high heat.
  2. Add oil onto the hot surface and let it shimmer.
  3. Sauté the diced onion for 3-4 minutes until translucent and caramelized.
  4. Brown the ground sausage with the onions for 5-7 minutes, breaking it into smaller pieces.
  5. Season with kosher salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, stirring to combine.
  6. Mix in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Prepare the garlic toast according to package instructions.
  8. Add shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sausage mixture and cover for one minute to melt.
  9. Assemble the Sloppy Joes on garlic toast and garnish as desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. The filling can be frozen for up to 3 months.
