Ingredients

  • Beef Brisket (3-5 lbs)
  • Onions (2 large, sliced)
  • Garlic (4 cloves, minced)
  • Beef Broth (1 cup)
  • Soy Sauce (1/2 cup)
  • Brown Sugar (2 tablespoons)
  • Smoked Paprika (1 tablespoon)
  • Ground Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Bay Leaves (2)

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and pat it dry with paper towels.
  2. Optional: Sear the brisket on all sides in a large skillet over medium heat until browned (about 4-5 minutes per side).
  3. Place sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Add minced garlic on top of the onions.
  5. Carefully place the brisket on the onions and spoon some onions atop the meat.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, pepper, and bay leaves.
  7. Pour the mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.
  9. Check for doneness by shredding the beef easily with two forks.
  10. Remove the brisket and allow it to rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
  11. Serve sliced against the grain.
