Description
A flavorful stir-fry dish of beef, bell peppers, and onions, bringing restaurant-style dining to your home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
- 2 tbsp (30g) vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp (15g) grated fresh ginger
- 1 tbsp (15g) soy sauce
- 1 tbsp (15g) oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large bell peppers, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp (30g) hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp (30g) rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp (15g) cornstarch
Instructions
- Marinate the beef: Combine beef strips with soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Prep the slurry: Whisk together cornstarch, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and rice vinegar in a small bowl.
- Sear the beef: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef strips and cook undisturbed for 1-2 minutes, then stir-fry until browned (3-4 minutes total). Remove beef from skillet.
- Cook the aromatics: In the same skillet, add minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the veggies: Toss in sliced bell peppers and onion. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until tender but still crisp.
- Combine and sauce it up: Return beef to the skillet and pour over the cornstarch mixture. Stir well and allow to simmer for a couple of minutes to thicken.
- Finishing touches: Drizzle with sesame oil and give it a final stir before serving.
Notes
For a lighter meal, reduce the oil or pair with extra vegetables. Leftovers taste even better the next day!
