- 1 cup Buttermilk
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 2 cups Shredded cabbage (green or purple)
- 1/4 cup Fresh cilantro (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons Lime juice
- 2 tablespoons Mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon Honey
- 8 small Corn or flour tortillas (warmed)
- Lime wedges (for serving)
- Optional toppings (sliced avocado, diced tomatoes, Cotija cheese)
Instructions
- Prepare the Fish: Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper, then dredge in buttermilk.
- Create the Crispy Coating: Mix the flour, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper in a shallow dish. Coat the fish in the flour mixture.
- Heat the Oil: Pour oil into a skillet and heat over medium-high until hot.
- Fry the Fish: Carefully place coated fish into the heated oil, cooking for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Whip Up the Slaw: In a bowl, mix cabbage, cilantro, lime juice, mayonnaise, honey, salt, and pepper.
- Warm the Tortillas: Heat tortillas in a skillet or over a flame until warm.
- Assemble Tacos: Place the crispy fish on a warm tortilla, add slaw, and any additional toppings. Serve with lime wedges.
