1 box vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)

1 cup red, white & blue M&M’s or sprinkles (for filling)

1 batch vanilla buttercream frosting

Red, white & blue food coloring (optional)

Edible glitter or star-shaped sprinkles

Prepare and bake cupcakes as directed; let cool completely.

Using a small knife or cupcake corer, remove the center of each cupcake.

Fill each hole with M&M’s or sprinkles, then replace the cupcake tops.

Frost with buttercream and top with edible glitter or festive sprinkles.

Chill slightly to set, then serve and enjoy the surprise!
